I’ve been thinking long and hard about a few things:

• Content direction: Not sure how I feel about sending a bunch of links as the commercial awareness update. I’m sure it’s useful for some, but I feel like there’s so much more readers would want.

What would you like to read/what’s useful for you? Hit reply and let me know. It honestly helps a ton.

• Rebranding: Whether I should rebrand this newsletter so it’s more personal, conversational and informal i.e. change it to my own ‘Afzal Hussein’ personal brand instead of ‘Career Guides Weekly’. This way I can write about more than just finance and careers (which may or may not be useful to you - reply and let me know).

Afzal’s Summer Internship Career Accelerator

Summer internships are starting soon (June / July) and yesterday I decided I’m going to try my best to help 100 interns convert their internships successfully into full-time offers. You can register your interest here (it’ll take less than 15 seconds).

  • What? Content strategy.

  • Why? More relevant and ‘better’ content will drive growth for Career Guides and this newsletter.

• LinkedIn

  • What? Content strategy and trying to post daily (weekdays).

  • Why? I really want to grow my following on LinkedIn. After all, most of my target audience is on the platform so it makes sense to focus more on LinkedIn growth as opposed to TikTok or Instagram. I’m currently on 56,000 followers. The plan is to consistently post for the next 6 months, make strategic adjustments, and see what happens.

• Career Guides

  • What? It’s kind of on autopilot and low maintenance which is nice. Considering raising prices soon as everything on the website is a steal right now. Also considering paid ads, but not sure as it’s an area I have no experience in so am somewhat hesitant to carve out the necessary time required to make it worthwhile.

  • Why? Growth + application season is opening soon and I know the impact the Guides can have for readers interested in securing offers.

• Newsletter

  • What? Content strategy.

  • Why? I want to make sure I’m sharing content that you (the reader) care about and find useful and interesting. This is especially important for the newsletter as the content will trickle down the chain i.e. likely be used in YouTube videos, LinkedIn posts, etc.

• Community: Afzal’s Summer Internship Career Accelerator

  • What? I want to personally help 100 summer interns convert their internships into full-time offers.

  • Why? I think it’ll be easy to do and want to explore building online communities to help my audience/s. This is an easy win for all involved and a great learning opportunity.
